Guest Reviews

A wonderful, unique place, architected & decorated with greatest care, lays quietly on top of the beach with a splendid view. The place extrudes a unique, calm and quieting atmosphere. It is a unique, never seen before mix of spanish, mexican and south african architecture, with (what I think) influences of Hundertwasser and 18th century. The house has has a beautiful garden (with it’s own little chappel. The house itself is a reason for a stay. You’ll never find anything similar. The host -Bernalene – was the perfect. She made us feel welcome and warm. That is very special and not common as I believe many guests pass through during a season. We had nice talks, got great tips and Bernalene made us the best and healthiest breakfasts with fruit platters and anything you can imagine. The rooms were special, unique, with great views. It has all the amenities you can wish for and then some. We WILL come back. Definitely.

Excellent and very quiet out-of-town accomodation with a caring, lovely hostess and a superb breakfast. Beautiful view, safe and clean beach, bird watching from your breakfast table. Spacious and clean rooms.

We had such a lovely stay at Valparaiso during our coastal roadtrip to Cape Town. The room was incredible, and the breakfast delicious. The breathtaking view from our balcony inspired my boyfriend to propose as soon as he saw it, even though he had only planned on popping the question a few days later. He felt that the setting was ideal for a special proposal, and it definitely was! We can’t wait to return to this guesthouse with its gorgeous garden, colourful and artistic interior and spectacular views. It will always hold a special place in our hearts and we can highly recommend it.

We were hoping to find a remote and tranquil beautiful place to relax and be creative right at a lonely sandy beach with thousands of shells to enjoy – and it exists – here it is. And there is a person behind it – Bernalene has created this exclusive artist`s home and is sharing it now. She is a wonderful host with an open and wide heart, we enjoyed staying with her a lot, and the breakfast is luxury as well.

Location was a fair way out which made for a stunning setting. The atmosphere was very intimate and eclectic. Berelene is a lovely host and makes great breakfast. Also has good knowledge of the local area. Great price. I will be recommending to anyone going to the area who is after a quiet retreat with good access to an amazing beach.

The house is an architectural masterpiece with wonderful views across the lonely beach, a very friendly and hospitable host and a delicious breakfast. It is a bit away from J-Bay but that doesn´t matter.

It is impossible to imagine that there could possibly be a better place to stay if you are in the Jeffreys Bay area. An unrivalled location overlooking a stunning beach combined with Bernalene’s friendliness and hospitality make this a “must stay”. Just perfect.

The Valparaiso Guesthouse is an interesting property designed and hosted by artist Bernalene Pistorius and her husband Louis. They were superb hosts and the GH is a delight to stay in because of all the artwork and the excellent taste in furnishings. Plus it is in a stunning location overlooking Paradise Beach which rivals my favourite Australian beaches. On the day I was there the beach was human free in every direction. Moreover on the drive in, there was steenbok doe nibbling by the roadside. I very strongly recommend you stay at Valparaiso if you are in the area.
